What is a KMZ file?

KMZ is a file format that displays geographic visualization, 2D maps and 3D data. It is a zipped or compressed version of the KML format. KMZ allows you to display your designs in 3D on Xomaa in an embedded Google Earth window on your Project pages.

How do I make KMZ files?

First you have to find a location on Google Earth where you want your model to appear. Once you have done this you need to import the terrain into Sketchup and build your design on the appropriate spot. After you are done building you need to export the model from Sketchup as a KMZ file and then upload it to Xomaa using the Upload KMZ button in your Project Editor.

Can I show other models than Sketchup?

You can present models or renderings that were produced in any software as jpg images or video animations. However, in order for the models to be viewed in the embedded Google Earth window they need to be converted to KMZ files.

When I upload a model as a KMZ file why does it not show up in the middle of the Google Earth window?

Try re-positioning your view in Sketchup and re-export a new KMZ file with the new position. The position of the viewer in Sketchup does effect the starting POV when you see the same model in Google Earth. Sometimes if a model has a large part of it burried under ground the starting POV in Google Earth will be right next to the ground and appear very confusing to a new viewer. In this case zoom pretty far out and above the model in Sketchup when you export to KMZ.

Why does my KMZ file fail to open in Google Earth?

This can be caused by a variety of reasons but the most common one is a bad file name. Do not use @ # $ % & or any other symbols in your file name. for example franklin1&2.kmz will not work but franklinOneAndTwo.kmz will work.
