Spiral House
July 2009
Experimental None None Overview
The Spiral House is an exploration into how the flow pattern of a residential design effects the form of the structure. In this iteration, the spiral is formed as a continuous walkway that wraps around a central core connecting all of the rooms inside.
This allows a building with many levels and ‘compartmentalized spaces’ to exist as a harmonious whole. This design is intended as a standard module to be placed on a 140x60’conforming lot. Each house can be offset with its neighbor thus avoiding seeing into the windows of the surrounding buildings.
Offset massing reduces unwanted views of the neighboring homes. The central core of the building is glass and the surrounding spiral structure is either an enclosed walkway or an exposed deck.
The side elevation shows the spiral pattern rising up into the roof lines.
